replies to siblings' letters: 11/06/23

 Hey kids!! Loved hearing about your Halloween! It brought back a lot of memories of Halloweens in elementary, middle and high school for me. 


Dan: Obi Wan is an awesome costume! I was obi wan one year for Halloween, probably when I was about your age if not a little younger. We'll definitely have to do that when I get back, airsofting is the best! Also, did you know my mission is famous for having Jaguars in it? I haven't seen any, and I probably won't ever, but out in the jungles in "Los altos", a different area than mine, a bunch are roaming around. Where I am in the coast theres just a lot of Iguanas and loud blackbirds.

Ems: That sounds like a blast! Trick or Treating with friends always is a good time. And yes, I have eaten some of the food we tried with Brother Guest. I had pig head tacos yesterday, which were pretty good, but took some getting used to (it was really fatty). I also had some of the best fish I've ever eaten, called Mojarro, it's fried and salted and served with spicy salsa, it was delicious. I'll talk more about the food in my everyone email. And you're friend is right, America does have some interesting stuff you don't have in other countries, but that's what makes it awesome.

Tom: I Am Legend is one of my favorite zombie movies! It's pretty intense. That's fun that you and David had a good time goofing around together. And nice job on your social studies test! Ww2 is definitely your thing. Something that you'd like here in Chiapas, Tom, is there are soldiers and machine guns EVERYWHERE. The police and military ride around in pickup trucks, standing in the back in their full gear. They have a big presence down here in the south-facing mexico because there are a lot of Immigrants from Africa and Venezuela and places, and they wanna make sure they're not coming in with any gangs or things like that. It's pretty crazy though. I think a lot of the Trucks I see have M60s on the top, and the soldiers carry L3s, but im not sure? You'd probably know better than me.

Anyway, that's a good summary of what's been going on here! Love to hear your guys holidays and fall season is going well! Have fun and keep up the good work in school and church! Love you!

  ¡Felíz Navidad todos! Christmas is awesome and we should all remember why we celebrate it. Because Jesus atoned for us, and thats why His birth is so significant! Its an awesome time in the year, and super groovy in México too.  Alma 7:10-12 is the Scripture for the week. Christ's Atonement and what that means for us. A favorite in teaching for me.  Anyway, the email is way short this week cuz I don't have a phone... I done got mugged and gotta use my comps phone for stuff today, so I'm pressed on time with emails and stuff. But I gotta keep the streak up! So he gave me a little time for this one today. It's also Christmas, gotta email on Christmas.   Casi Hermanos y Hermanas, casi... I almost didn't get one out today guys. That would've ruined a nearly 5 month streak. But nah, here we are, I gotchu, I know y'all are probably on the edge of your seats and scratching your heads thinking "golly gee, when's Elder Allen gonna get his email out today?" But fear not.  In all honesty, this week was a little slower, but still good. We did a lot of meeting with members, inviting inactives to church and other activities and reading Come Follow Me with those people. We have developed some good relationships with these members, it's cool to see. I would write more, but I'm short on time. Scripture of the week is Matthew 5:48, "be ye perfect". Won't lie, I suck at keeping this commandment. All of us do, but that's why we have Christ and His atonement! Who Knew Eclipse Glasses were so Swag? 10/18/23

  Hey all, or as we say here in the MTC, Hola, mi Español es muy mal. It's been a good week, a lot of Spanish and a lot of classtime. It's actually surprised me how well I'm grasping the concepts we're learning, especially considering how well I did in remembering high school Spanish. It's tiring for sure, but I'm learning a lot. Reassignments came in this week, and there were a lot of changes. In our district we have 10 guys going to Mexico and 5 going to the DR. 8 got reassignments. Out of the 10 Mexican missionaries, 7 of them got reassignments due to visa issues and things. I was one of the 3 who managed to squeeze through. So that is kinda exciting. I guess the Lord really needs me in Tuxtla Gutierrez. There was a Solar Eclipse here in Utah, so that was kinda cool. One of our teachers gave us all some glasses to watch it, and we kinda had a photoshoot, it was pretty sweet. I have some pictures attached below. We also had a really good devotional with Elder ...
