11/20/23: Como se dice parrot?

Hey all, ¿qué paso? This week was slow, fast, boring and exciting all at the same time. We a lot of contacting and finding this week. Here in Arriaga there are a lot of inactive members of the church. Roughly 650 in total (although we're not sure how acurate some of the records are). Either way, there's a lot. Compare that with the maybe 40-50 active in both branches in the city, and it's a bit of a problem. So us as missionaries have been working hard to find those who have fallen away, because there are a lot. Much of this work has to do with getting the members to have relationships with eachother as well, because we can't stay and help keep people active. That's the members job's. Hence a lot of finding and inviting to church.

However, we are still focusing on helping others come unto Christ who haven't yet been baptized. We are super close with our little friend Juan Antonio who wants to be baptized. We came up with some games to help him remeber certain parts of the gospel he has had a hard time with. So that was a good success. Pray for him that he can keep up his good rememberance ans dilligence!

Aside from the work, today we went to some ruins here in our Zone for P day, they were epic. Only about 4 of us ended up going out for the journey, seeing as its a 20 km hike round trip, but it was way worth it. There are a lot of ruins down here, but these were the first I've seen, and probably not the last. It was cool because we asked the groundskeeper how old they were, and he said they were built by a people who originated from about 600 BC to about 600 AD. For those of you familiar, this is the timeline much of the Book of Mormon takes place, so for all we know, we were walking around some old Lamanite/Nephite towns and temples. It was cool.

Explanation for the title: At one of the inactive members house's we visited, they had a parrot. His name was güily (willy) and he was very nice. Until he wasn't and bit me when I was told to hold him by his owner. She didn't see the scar, so when I pulled my hand away, she was confused and told me to reach out for another try. Me being dumb and confused at the situation, I went for it again, and proceeded to be bit again. She then saw the blood and helped me clean it up and felt bad, but I assured her all was ok and it wasn't anyones fault. Walking out i asked my companion, "como se dice parrot?", wanting to know what to call my new friend, and he told me it is Loro. So, Güily the Loro and I have some beef now.

Scripture of the week is actually a conference talk by Dieter F Uchtdorf called "Be Not Afraid, Only Believe" in Oct. 2015. Its way good and you shoupd all give it a listen. Work to hold yourself to the standards God has given us, and we will always be exceedingly blessed for it. ESPECIALLY when we keep His commandments in hard times and trial.

Anyway, that's all folks! Have a wonderful week and thanks for reading if you did! Keep an eye out for God's tender mercies, because they're there! Adios
