1/1/24: Mayuk Takin
¡Felizzz Año Nuevooo! It's 2024 baby! Somehow... this year was wild for me, idk about you guys. It's been a blast though. First of all I would like to apologize, I haven't emailed since last year. (Lol dad joke, sorry, someone had to make it).
Now to anwser the question some of you may be asking... Does Elder Allen have a phone now? The answer is actually yes! Woohoo! The office missionaries pulled through, and with, a timely trip to Tuxtla for an immigration appointment, I was able to recieve a new(ish) one. Now I can actually write a proper email.
New Years is fun in Mexico, we got invited to eat at like 4 houses yesterday, but only made it to 2. And we ate like kings. It was epic. Mexican food is top tier in my opinion, especially with a cold glass of "Coca" or Horchata to wash it down. The streets are empty today too, it's fun walking down a street that would usually be packed with Motos and Camionetas and people and see it empty. Everyone is asleep from partying all night I guess.
This week was solid, good progress with those we're teaching, and gearing up for another baptism in a week and a half. We also have a solid amount of others on date and ready to be put on date for baptism, so that's exciting. Teaching with the Spirit to the point where a person feels the desire to know more about their all-loving God might be my new favorite thing in the world.
We had a lesson with a woman this week who really wants to know how feel God's love for her in her life more, based off of some experiences she'd had years ago. We shared with her some scriptures and experiences of our own about feeling and experiencing God's love for ourselves. At the end of the lesson she began to tear up a bit and thanked us for bringing the same spirit she'd been longing for for years into her home. It was awesome.
Scripture of the Week is Mosiah 4:9-10. Might be a reuse from another week... not sure. If it is, read it again I guess, if not, still read it. It's about believing in God, beliving in Christ and believing in a loving plan which God has for us. I have found that when I simply just put in faith and ponder and work to learn more about why I believe, my life is much easier and simpler than leaving myself to argue between my own thoughts and those of the world. Just trust that God's plan is best for you, because it is, always, I promise.
Anyway, thanks for reading if you did! Title is a phrase in Tzotzil (a dialect here in Chiapas) that means "there is no money", because this week my comp and I scraped by money-wise, ending off with a whopping 9 pesos (about $0.75) between the both of us. Good times.Talk to yall next week! ¡Adios!
