12/4/23: Certified Mexicano

Bueno Bueno! This week has been truly a wild one, I say that every week I feel like, but this one was for sure the most eventful. First off I wanna share a wild story.

EL MILAGRO (miracle):
So there's this guy named Joaquin who called us over one night from his porch amd he wanted to talk. He said he'd talked to missionaries like us years ago, but hasn't had the opportunity/lost the opportunity to speak with us again. So we was glad to see us. He'd mentioned how he has a hard time walking and has had growing pain in his legs for a while. After a like an hour of him giving us a rundown of his life, we finally got going. Anyway, that's how we met him. Fast forward a few days to Tuesday. I was on exchanges with my LD, Elder Price, and we walked by his house again, and, sure enough, there he was, in the exact same spot and clothes as 2 days before lol. He tells us he would like us to pray for him and his legs because he could barely stand up and let alone move. But instead we asked him if he'd like a blessing of healing. He was way down. He kept saying "tengo fe, tengo mucho fe". So we helped him inside and set him up on another chair, and I annointed him with the oil, and Elder Price gives the blessing. Right as we close, he stands up, exclaims, "no hay dolor" (there is no more pain) and begins walking around his house like there had never been any problems before. It was wild. Price and I looked at each other in awe and just stared smiling both with the thought "awe yeah, God's power is real baby". The best part was we saw him walking around town, blocks from his house, with a huge smile on his face.

We also had zone conferences this week which were cool. I got to speak a little more with the mission president, which was cool, seeing as I've probably only talked to him for a total of 3 minutes.

Also, the members totally pulled through this week, there aren't very many active ones here, but the ones that are active are the best. We got 10 references this week!! (That's a lot if anyone was wondering) All from various members in the branch and other means. The best part is, most of them are youth and have part member families they can help reactivate! Noche de Fútbol, Clase de Inglés and many of our other activites to get in touch with the members have truly paid off. This week is transfers, so pray I stay here in Arriaga, I would very much like to at least start teaching many of these people and see the other work we've done here follow through.

Bringing me to my next part... I claim I am a certified Méxicano for 3 reasons: 1. My companion has taught me various dances and forms of yelling that are associated with ranchero music. 2. I have now been here for one transfer as of this week, my spanish is also almost to the point of comfort in a good amount of talking scenarios. And 3. (My favorite) I ate 6 mirraparriba chiles yesterday without shedding a tear, quite the change from my first week where I couldn't handle even 2. My tongue was on fire and I liked it... Like a true mexican (as my companion says). What can I say, the Gift of Tongues is with me. (Sorry, dad joke).

Sorry for the long email, like I said, it was crazy, scripture of the week is James 2:17, about faith and works. If you have faith, show it, our faith dies when we don't nurture it or put in the work. It also is how we can fall into confusion. One of my favorite reasons for covenants. They are a form of work we can put in to show our faith to God and ourselves, and keep us in a straight line with what we do. Faith is an action word!

Quick side note: Juan Antonio's baptism was not this week (very sad) for various scheduling, teaching, organizational, etc. reasons. It will be happening soon though. I'll mention it when it does happen.

Thanks for reading if you did! Have a good week and think of Jesus a lot! ¡Nos vemos!
