6/17/24: Lluvia (we got lucky)

Hello all. I have news... It rained!!

Being from Oregon and Washington where rain is a constant, I am not accostumed to there never being any kind of rain whatsoever, especially when I got sent to one of the rainiest parts of Mexico (apparently it's a very dry year, so we're lucky to see any). Other than the occasional 15 minute spurt, I have never really seen rain in Chiapas until this week.

And now it's raining a ton! It's all green, people don't just complain about the heat all the time, and we get to see the streets flood. (Irrigation is not very good here...) It's a great time, and the big rain clouds take the sun off our back for a bit, so I'm loving it.

Anyway, that aside, Elder Wray and I have been working hard in the area. We haven't seen a baptism in about a month, which is quite the swing from last transfer, but we're still doing good work. We did confirm a date for 2 baptisms this week and are working really hard with a few others to get them moving towards that goal.

We also went to the temple this week, which was great. We have a huge blessing in Chiapas to have a temple close by, so we're doing a lot of work with our many new converts to get them to the temple. The blessings and work done in the house of the Lord are pretty awesome and change lives, so I'm super happy we've been able to help people go there for the first time.

The Scripture of the Week is in Doctrine and Covenants 35:13
"Wherefore, I call upon the weak things of the world, those who are unlearned and despised, to thresh the nations by the power of my Spirit"

Sometimes we need to remember just how weak we really are, especially me sometimes. I like this scripture cuz it's very humbling. Sometimes we think we're really cool and smart, but really in comparison with God, we don't hardly amount to anything. We got to remember, the Spirit can't change us if we're too prideful to change.

That's what I got! Do me a solid and say thank you prayers to God for sending rain to Cintalapa. Thanks for reading if you did! ¡Adios!
