6/24/24: Iguanas and Chicatan

 La semana ya ha pasado.

Hello everyone, I hope your weeks were good, mine was solid. This week we tried some fun foods. I finally have had the opportunity to eat some Iguana.

We were sitting in a lesson, talking about baptism with a lady who's been in teaching for awhile when a guy who lives in the house came walking in with a live Iguana held by the neck. He said he was walking home when he saw one sitting by the street and decided he could catch it. Turns out he's pretty good at catching iguanas. He put it in a bucket to show it off and then left the room to go kill and cook it. He invited us missionaries in the area to come by the next day for a taste of the new kill.

I would rank it a solid 8.5/10, had a chicken like texture, a little tougher, and had a mild taste of a mix of fish and chicken. Would eat again.

The next goofy food we ate, also in the same lesson that was interupted by the iguana guy, was Chicatán. Chicatán is a large ant that the people here in Chiapas LOVE. People can only collect them for about 2-3 weeks of the year when the rains start, and we're in that season right now. They collect the queen ants when they all come out of their nests because of the rain flooding them. They let us try some the other day after it got cooked up with some salt and lime, and it was solid.

I would rank it a 7/10, it had good flavor, but smelled a little weird and had a lot of little pieces that I had to spit out after.

Anyway, workwise the area is doing all right, we have a good line up of about 4 or 5 progressing people for the next month and transfer, but I think I'll miss a lot of the fruit of the work from this transfer.

Our one person that could get baptized this month is Adriana, she loves coming to church and studying the scriptures, but is having a hard time changing from her Catholic heritage. We're helping her understand the balance. Pray for Adriana that she can make the adjustment and feel calm about her faith.

Scripture of the Week is D&C 42:69, it says:
"Lift up your hearts and rejoice, for unto you the kingdom, or in other words, the keys of the church have been given. Even so. Amen."
The keys of the Church of Christ are restored! It's awesome! We can make eternal ordinances with God and bind ourselves to Him. Isn't that awesome? Keeping and making covenants with the keys of the Priesthood is awesome.

That's the week! Enjoy the food review and remember to pray more! ¡Adios!
