7/1/24: Las Inundaciones
Ayo, it's been an epic week. I will explain.
First of all, Cintalapa got FLOODED this week, it was wild, it was like 3 or 4 feet deep in some parts of the streets. We were just walking around like normal and it started pouring hard. (The irrigation in Mexico is mot very good, so it floods really easily) We were on our way to set up the baptism of our friends Irving and Adriana.
The rains ended up taking out the power in the area where the chapel is. We got there about an hour early, and we'd already had everything set up. We decided we'd wait a bit to see if the rain lightened up and if the power would come back. In the mean time we went to help bail water out of a members flooding house nearby. We finished that up and went to the chapel to see how things were. The power was still out and we were about 30 minutes from the baptism.
We started calling people and cancelling, Adriana decided she'd rather postpone (we're gonna do hers on Tuesday this week). We were pretty down cuz we were excited to have 2 baptisms of people who'd been so in and out of their decision and had done so much to get there. Irving also had to postpone his baptism til July 13th if it wasn't that day cuz of a work trip. However, right as we were all packed up and leaving, a group of members from little towns outside of Cintalapa pulled up. We immediately reconsidered (cuz if they can make it, other people can too) and we called Irving.
In the call we proposed that we still hold the baptism even tho there wasn't any power in the chapel and the streets were flooded. He answered with an energetic, "pues no importa! Ya nos vamos!" (Not important, lets do it!). Less than 5 minutes later, he and his family came running in, ready for the baptism. We lit the room with phone flashlights as a few more members came in for the very impromptu service. It was probably the most spiritual baptismal service I've been apart of.
Outside of the legendary baptism of Irving the G.O.A.T., the week was pretty chill. I got probably the freshest haircut of my life for about 4 and a half american dollars (Mexican barbers and awesome) and my comp and I were both hit on to extreme levels (on two different occasions).
Anyway, I'll wrap it up with the Scripture of the Week. In Ether 12:8 we read about faith. It says:
"But because of the faith of men he has shown himself unto the world, and glorified the name of the Father, and prepared a way that thereby others might be partakers of the heavenly gift, that they might hope for those things which they have not seen."
Jesus Christ saves us through our faith, and if our faith is real, we start on a path with Christ. Sometimes it's a tough path to start on, but it's always worth it.
That's the rundown! There was a lot more that happened, but I don't want this email to be a million miles words long, so I'll leave it at that. Thanks for reading if you did! ¡Adios!
