7/22/24: Wrist Problems

Hey guys, this week was pretty interesting, we found some new people, had some great lessons and screwed up my wrist (Elder Peterson did not take part in that last one).

First I'll explain the wrist thing: We went to soccer night on Tuesday as normal and were having a good time. Here in this part of Tuxtla a loooot of people show up to soccer night, so we set up things called "retas", or like mini teams so that way everyone gets to play. It kinda works like king of the court, winner stays and loser leaves.

So anyway, in one of these retas we did an all-Elder team cuz a couple of other nearbye missionaries came to see investigators they invited. I was playing goalie cuz no one else wanted to and I semi enjoy being goalie. We take the game down to penalty kicks, so it's big pressure. The kick from the other team came in really fast and I guess I put my hand in front of it weird cuz after I blocked it cuz there was crazy shooting pain into my wrist afterwards.

Sacrifice was worth it tho, we won.

Turns out, after many calls of APs self-diagnosing over phone calls, members being awesome and giving me a makeshift armbrace with cardboard, getting chewed out for playing soccer by the mission president's wife (I guess it's a new rule that we're not alowed to now?) and learning the painstakingly slow, uninformative, and expensive process of hospitals in Mexico, we found out it was a sprain in my upper arm. Yayyyyyy

Guys, don't injure yourselves on the mission, not for the pain or inconvenience of having a useless limb, but just for the layers upon layers of trouble you have to go through to get anything done...

Sorry, I'm kinda just complaining now. The mission is great! I swear! And my leaders are all cool and wonderfull people!

Other than that... it was a chill week. We have a lady progressing crazy fast, her name is Adriana, another dude named Gregorio who I've mentioned who really likes the church, and a few other very genuine and interested people who we're teaching. Including.... my first Atheist!!!

I have never taught, met or even HEARD OF an Atheist here in Mexico. We met him yesterday and had an interesting talk about religion. He said he'd be interested in learning more about the Church cuz a friend gave him a Book of Mormon years ago he's never really read much of. We'll see how it goes. Whatever happens, it'll be a great opportunity to testify of Christ to someone who lacks that part of their life.

Scripture of the Week is 1 Nephi 2:16. It's about how Nephi's desire to learn more lead him to learn the truth from the one truly trustworthy source, the Holy Spirit. We too can learn the truth of all things if we're open to it! We started reading the BOM as a mission this week and it's awesome!

Read the Book of Mormon and other scriptures. Be humble and willing to learn and the Spirit will guide you. I've learned a lot this week about being more submissive to the will of God. It's something important!

Anyway, that's what I'll write for the week. This one was long, thanks for reading if you did and ¡Adios!
