8/26/24: Pues, podemos ayudarle?
Bonjour mis queridos friends, how are you doing?
This week was a solid one, thorougly enjoying my time here in La Pimienta. We put a few baptismal dates, which was cool. One for a cool dude named Geovanni, for the 8th of September (also his birthday) and another for this next week, the 30th of August, for a teenager named William.
Geovanni is cool cuz he'd found the church through seeing two missionaries with white shirts and plaques come up to his mom and help her move sand years back. He said they just came to help, they didn't try to take her number, they didn't try to preach, they just came and served without asking for anything in return. He said he was touched by seeing two young people doing such selfless service and he wanted to investigate about the church they came from, and sure enough, here he is now, getting ready to be baptized in it.
The other guy William has been coming to church for weeks but has run away from the missionaries every time we come up to him, so he's been hard to lock down a lesson with. But.... we got him! We got the bishop to help us out and we got a lesson in and date set. I guess he just had a quick change of mind when he saw we were normal people? I'm not super sure. All I know is that he whole-heartedly said yes to getting baptized in one week. So that should be cool, means that we should have 2 baptisms this weekend now! (The other for a lady named Anahis)
To explain the title: this week we went to contact a little family we have in teaching, they've been pretty interesting and kinda hard to get to keep promises, but they've shown potencial. Until saturday...
I guess they've had some marriage problems recently cuz as we approached their door, the lady opened it up with all her kids, carrying bags and backpacks full of all their stuff. She said, " Hermanos! Heyyy, we were actually just getting going, I don't think we're coming back... we're gonna leave my husband for good". My comp and I just looked at eachother and we had genuinely 0 idea of what to do. So after an awkward moment of silence and scrambling of what I should say, I just looked at her and asked, "well, can we help you?"
It was pretty weird... and not exactly the best response She said no and we kinda just said goodbye and walked away, unsure of what to think of the situation. It was pretty sad to see honestly, but there really is not much we can nor should do at that point as missionaries. It was just really wacky that we walked up at that exact moment and were witnesses of it all. Pray for the little family that they can work their differences out.
Anyway, that's the rundown. Scripture of the Week is Mosiah 15, the whole chapter, it's really good. It's all about Christ and why we need redemption. It's great to have it laid out so nicely like Abinadi does it, cuz it really helped me to understand Christ's role as our redeemer on a deeper level. I invite you all to read it and mark it any time it mentions anything about Christ! The Spirit will be there.
Thanks for reading (if you did) and have a good week! ¡Hasta luego!
