6/30/25: Comalapa

It was a chill week. We had what will be my last zone conference. It was a good one.

I also went on divisions in a place called Comalapa. It's a place that hasn't had missionaries for over 2 years until recently. It was closed because there was a ton of narco trafficking and cartel influence. It was super dangerous. But now it's safe. The Pakales (the local anti-cartel police force) went in and fought them off.

Now, going through the town there are police trucks and fully armed units about every 4 blocks. Along the way to the town there are buildings full of bullet holes and battle marks from the fighting. It's pretty gnarly.

The town is super ready for missionaries though. While I was there with Elder Wilson, they guy who's area it is, we found a ton of success and really prepared people for the gospel.

This week in our area we've been seeing progress from our friend Carmelino. He says going to church and reading the Book of Mormon daily are now habits for him he intends on keeping. Be like Carmelino.

The one problem with our buddy is that he and his wife aren't married. (The classic issue). In order to help him get baptized we need to not only convert him, but also his wife, Nery, a very strong member of a local Evangelical church. We had a good lesson with them this week where we taught and testified of the restauration really powerfully. By the end of the lesson it seemed Nery was half convinced. Now all she has to do is pray about it and read the Book of Mormon and she'll be there.

Scripture of the Week is in Romans 8:17
"And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together."

I really like this verse because it gives us the simple equation of Salvation, but better yet, it demonstrates the need for covenants. In spanish I honestly like the verse better, but in english it's good too. If we can "suffer with him" and do it with him through our covenants, then the blessings are enourmous.

Anyway, that'll be all. Thanks for reading if you did and I hope you all have a great week!
