11/25/24: Yeah, I'm in Tapachula
Hey guys! How's everything going? Everything is great here! So I'll get into it!
First off, I am in Tapachula, which means there are a lot of sicknesses and a lot of Immigrants. I will explain.
This week we had 2 people get dengue in the zone and another 2 get stomach bugs, so it was a whacky week. We were doing exchanges with everyone to keep the areas from dying. When someone gets sick they stay in all day and their comp has to be with them whether or not they are actually sick. So we go and take the unsick comp out to work in their area, while one of us stays back with the sick guy. So... with so many sick people, we did a lottt of exchanges this week. It was a good time.
The upside of the week was the immigrants. I've mentioned before that this town is mostly people on the move to the States from countries in South America. The great thing about this is that they are very willing to hear the gospel as most of them have seen missionaries before in other countries, and have a rather desperate situation where they are looking for hope. They usually just come to us with the desire, which is awesome.
So, this week, despite all the sickness, was very good in terms of finding people who are willing to get baptized. In our area we found 2 guys from Ecuador that had been to church a lot in their home country, but moved just before their baptismal date. So they wanted to get baptized as soon as we came into contact with them. We also found another Venezuelan family of 6 who's mother was baptized in Columbia and loves the gospel and wants her family and friends to get baptized while they are here. So that is some great stuff.
Finding these people was a HUGE blessing for us, as we'd been praying a lot to find somebody who has the desire to learn more about Christ and His gospel. God definitely heard our prayers cuz He just handed us a whole ton of people looking for more purpose to their lives.
The Lord's work is awesome and I wanted to share a scripture from Mosiah 5 for the Scripture of the Week.
Mosiah 5:7-8. Go read it. It's about covenants and the blessings that come from them!
Anyway, that's the report on the week! Be good people and remember to love Jesus! ¡Adios!
