8/5/24: Droppin BofM's left and right

 Hola mis amigos, como están todos ustedes? It's been another week, so we're writing another email.


First off, I apologize if you have written me and I haven't gotten back in a longg time, I swear I'm not ignoring you... I usually make just barely enough time for this email and not much else. So sorry, I'll try to be better.

Secondly, I'll explain the title.

So idk why, but for some reason we never really have Books of Mormon down here in Chiapas. (I think they're all gettin shipped off to US missions and South America and stuff instead of here :( It's kinda annoying cuz I came here to preach and share this book with people, and the necesity of this book became really apparent in the lives of people we're teaching this week.

We had 3 different people ask us about it in crazy direct ways. Things like "hey, so this Atonement of Jesus Christ thing sounds important, would there possibly be a book other than the Bible that talks about it??" And, "hey, I've seen you guys walking on the street before, I've always wanted you guys to knock on my door before cuz I want to learn more about your Book of Mormon". And lastly, a lady literally praying in the middle of her first ever visit to Sunday School that she could recieve the book (the BoM) being talked about so she could learn more about God and Jesus Christ. (More on that last one in a sec).

Fortunately, the offices and mission President pulled through and got us some more copies to give out When we got them we made a list of who needed them first and went out and got to work.

Remember that English lesson I talked about last week? Well, that turned out to be important. (Her name is Joanna btw and she's a GOAT). We had another lesson with her in the park (one of the most chaotic lessons ever, I'm never doing a park lesson in Tuxtla again) and invited her to church. Her interest sparked and was fully commited to coming. So she pulled up Sunday morning and had a great time. She saw some friends from years ago she didn't know were members and it was a crazy miracle for her. But the best part was the thing I mentioned earlier, with the Book of Mormon. 

We didn't know she'd been praying to recieve a book until we gave our last copy we had with us to her about 10 minutes after her prayer. When she got it she was so overcome and shocked by the unexpected answer to her prayer, she started crying tears of gratitude. It was crazy. She texted us a few hours later and told us we were the angels she needed in her life 

For me and Elder Peterson it was a pretty divine testimony of the power of the Book of Mormon and the knowledge of Christ our Savior it brings. There's so much I learned about us as humans, my purpose as a missionary and the way God works in our lives from this experience, I could write a book, but I'll just sum it up with the Scripture of the Week:

Alma 37:6-7 
"6 Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise. 
7 And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls"

That's my favorite scripture. For so many reasons. But I see it's truth especially in the way God helps us find the people who need us as missionaries.

Anyway, sorry that was a long one! A quick summary of other things we did from the week were:
• Have interviews with President (mine was 25 minutes long!! (I'm not in trouble I swear) I learned a lot about him, it was great)
• Went to one of the only Carl's Jr in Chiapas with Presidente Camey for dinner with a few other missionaries
• Had Zone Conference
• Unofficially became the new Sunday School teachers for the YSAs in the area?
• Almost ate myself to death multiple times (the ward members are awesome here)

  ¡Felíz Navidad todos! Christmas is awesome and we should all remember why we celebrate it. Because Jesus atoned for us, and thats why His birth is so significant! Its an awesome time in the year, and super groovy in México too.  Alma 7:10-12 is the Scripture for the week. Christ's Atonement and what that means for us. A favorite in teaching for me.  Anyway, the email is way short this week cuz I don't have a phone... I done got mugged and gotta use my comps phone for stuff today, so I'm pressed on time with emails and stuff. But I gotta keep the streak up! So he gave me a little time for this one today. It's also Christmas, gotta email on Christmas. 2/5/24: Hijole

  Casi Hermanos y Hermanas, casi... I almost didn't get one out today guys. That would've ruined a nearly 5 month streak. But nah, here we are, I gotchu, I know y'all are probably on the edge of your seats and scratching your heads thinking "golly gee, when's Elder Allen gonna get his email out today?" But fear not.  In all honesty, this week was a little slower, but still good. We did a lot of meeting with members, inviting inactives to church and other activities and reading Come Follow Me with those people. We have developed some good relationships with these members, it's cool to see. I would write more, but I'm short on time. Scripture of the week is Matthew 5:48, "be ye perfect". Won't lie, I suck at keeping this commandment. All of us do, but that's why we have Christ and His atonement! Each day we have opportunities to get better at trying to be perfect.  Thats all I can throw down today, have a good week! Adios! - Elder Allen...

Who Knew Eclipse Glasses were so Swag? 10/18/23

  Hey all, or as we say here in the MTC, Hola, mi Español es muy mal. It's been a good week, a lot of Spanish and a lot of classtime. It's actually surprised me how well I'm grasping the concepts we're learning, especially considering how well I did in remembering high school Spanish. It's tiring for sure, but I'm learning a lot. Reassignments came in this week, and there were a lot of changes. In our district we have 10 guys going to Mexico and 5 going to the DR. 8 got reassignments. Out of the 10 Mexican missionaries, 7 of them got reassignments due to visa issues and things. I was one of the 3 who managed to squeeze through. So that is kinda exciting. I guess the Lord really needs me in Tuxtla Gutierrez. There was a Solar Eclipse here in Utah, so that was kinda cool. One of our teachers gave us all some glasses to watch it, and we kinda had a photoshoot, it was pretty sweet. I have some pictures attached below. We also had a really good devotional with Elder ...
