9/23/24: Somos Ateos
Hey all! I have a bit more time this week than I did last week, so I'll go more into depth.
We saw the Belgian dudes from last week again, this time they were kinda drunk, but still relatively normal. They were visiting Chiapas cuz I guess one of them lived in Tuxtla a few years back to master his spanish with a friend from the area. They all spoke at least 3 languages fluently and were working on spanish. It was pretty cool.
The title of this week comes from a guy who was following us down a street for a few doors as we were knocking them and yelling from a distance (as if we weren't there) "Son Ateos!!! No vayan a escucharlos, son ateos!!" (They're atheists! Don't listen to them!). My comp and I just looked at eat other after about the 3rd door and burst into laughter from the audacity of the guy. We promptly left the area realizing our work was rather in vain as long as he was in the area.
We also learned that people here will find any reason not to open their door after hearing we're missionaries, and I mean ANY reason. We were door knocking when it started raining and 3 times in a row ladies yelled through the door that they were not able to let us into their house because it was raining outside. They also told us that it's not good to be out in the rain and that we should find someone or somewhere to help us find cover from it. (I'll let you think about the sense of that for a second)
Sidenote: Mexicans are deathly afraid of the rain
But, aside from all that, it was honestly an amazing week! We're seeing great progress from some of our friends and the members are doing awesome work on their side! The Lord's work really is powerful when people put in the faith and effort into sharing their testimonies with others.
Scripture of the Week is Luke 8:5-15, the parable of the seed guy (sembrador?). I read it in the temple this week and it was awesome. I love taking it and analyzing what kind of seed I am and what things are thorns or where are there rocks in my life keeping me from growing into a big tree. I invite you to do the same!
Anyway, that's the wrap for the week! Thanks for reading if you did and have a great week! ¡Hasta luego!
